IFC and the Intelligent Exchange of Data |
Traditionally, project teams within the building industry exchange CAD data on a daily basis with planning partners. When working in 2D, much of the information exchanged is lost - in addition to valuable planning time. The IFC format - Industry Foundation Classes offers a multiplicity of information: You work with intelligent 3D-CAD building objects like walls, windows or slabs. These objects contain specific properties and attributes, which give the user a high level of flexibility. As well as the exchange of 2D and 3D-data, the structural relationships between the elements can be easily managed. Thus, the IFC format allows you to reach new levels of collaboration and productivity in the building industry, even with the use of different CAD systems.
As a member of the Industrial Alliance for Interoperability (IAI) the Nemetschek AG has long supported the creation of model-based standards within the building industry. The object-oriented approach to building design will allow for improvement of all the processes involved in design, construction and management of buildings.

The IFC – Industry Foundation Classes – have become a powerful standard for exchanging intelligent object-oriented model data within the building industry. As an extension to conventional exchange standards such as DWG/DXF or PDF formats, IFC can be used to describe specific component types such as walls, stairs or windows with their properties and parameters.
The Nemetschek AG decisively influenced this development from mere 2D drafting to intelligent object-oriented 3D design of buildings – known today as Building Information Modelling or BIM.

The Nemetschek IFC Viewer represents an important component in the Nemetschek IFC strategy. It enables IFC building models to be viewed – independently of CAD or other special software – and interactively explored in VR (Virtual Reality) mode. It is an ideal tool for integrating all those involved in the planning process in a simple intuitive way.

Standard IFC 2x3 with Allplan |

The Industry Foundation Classes IFC 2x are a standardized data exchange to which more target specific aspects and elements are added with every new IFC version.
In Allplan Version 2006.2 we have further developed the IFC interface for our customers to make even more efficient use of the IFC add-on. Beneath the architectural core model, the new IFC 2x3 interface includes 2D annotation elements such as labels, texts, symbols and hatching along with the 3D object descriptions. This means that IFC can also be used in the layout area.
The IFC 2x3 add-on for Allplan was certified by the IAI in March 2007 and is now available to download for free.

About the Industry Foundation Classes - IFC |

In order to be able to carry out the vision of constant data communication, the IAI developed a basis model – known as the Industry Foundation Classes.The IFC supports the object oriented design of buildings (BIM) and the exchange of intelligent model data - from architecture thru to the different technical disciplines such as HVAC, Structural Design and Analysis, Facility Management etc.
