Computer Facination
Professor Georg Nemetschek, born in 1934, is the founder and main shareholder of Nemetschek AG. His spirit embodies those same elements which were decisive for the success of the company :a fascination with construction and a fascination for computers. |
Professor Georg Nemetschek:
Visionary with his feet on the ground |
Family Tradition
Georg Nemetschek's grandfather and great-grandfather were artistic and construction metalworkers, master builders and contractors. His father was an architect and civil engineer. While studying civil engineering at the Technical University in Munich, Georg Nemetschek became fascinated with the PERM. This early computer, which operated with vacuum tubes, was developed and built by professors Piloty and Sauer. It represented a further milestone in the history of computing after the Z1 by Konrad Zuse. |
Software Vision
With hindsight we can easily draw a straight line connecting the simple vacuum tube computer to today's applications. But it's a different matter to invest one's entire resources and energy into the development of software - with no way in the 1960s of even guessing the outcome of these investments. But Georg Nemetschek took these risks. His engineering office for the construction industry, founded in 1963, soon was one of the first to use finite element programs for analysing heavily-loaded, irregularly supported slabs.
Recruitment and Staff Development
In 1971 Georg Nemetschek was appointed to a professorship at the Fachhochschule Munich, a technical college. He served for many years as the dean of the Faculty for Civil Engineering and Steel Construction, a position he retained until 1996. He always placed great emphasis on developing the student's practical skills. Through the work of special foundations he ensured that students always had access to the latest hardware and software.
Going Public
In 1997 Professor Georg Nemetschek reconstituted his company, Nemetschek Programmsysteme GmbH, as a stock corporation. The listing on the stock exchange followed in March 1999. |
