 | Nemetschek’s Allplan BIM 2008 is the leading 3D Design Tool for Reinforced Concrete Design and Detailing | | |
 | | | |
 | Munich, 25 September 2007 – Nemetschek’s Allplan BIM 2008 Engineering sets new standards in 3D design and detailing of reinforced concrete structures. New functions for reinforcing round components, an optimised way of collaborating and up-to-date 3D manufacturers’ data all help to notably improve processes in the engineering office. Allplan BIM 2008 Engineering also marks the start of a new age in structural engineering as it uses Nemetschek Round-Trip Engineering to support the interaction of CAD and CAE.
The new version allows users to adapt the product to suit their preferred method of working or project requirements. Allplan BIM 2008 Engineering offers a complete range of CAD functions – from traditional working in 2D, to a hybrid way of working with 2D formwork and 3D reinforcement to formwork and reinforcement planning in 3D. Full use is made of the potential of Round-Trip Engineering, the integrated solution for structural engineering.
The efficiency of Allplan BIM 2008 is best seen in individual construction projects with complex geometries. Round components like circular foundations, walls or slabs can be easily reinforced with the new functions for annular and spiral reinforcements. Thanks to additional predefined reinforcement elements, the new version also produces collision-free reinforcement proposals for complex planning objects like columns with cantilevers. Changes to the design are automatically updated in all plans and lists without any inconsistencies, eliminating the need for multiple entries.
Manufacturers’ data minimise mistakes in planning
Allplan BIM 2008 Engineering also assists users in their work with leading manufacturers of fixtures – such as Bamtec, Erico-Lenton, Halfen-Deha, Peikko, Schöck and Stahlwerk Annahütte. Rather than using simple 2D symbols, planners can use real 3D fixtures so that mistakes in planning (e.g. collisions) can be seen immediately. This gives users greatly enhanced efficiency and convenience as they can select directly from a ready-to-use manufacturers’ catalogue.
In the new version, Nemetschek has also further improved ease-of-use. For example, users only have to enter the relevant data once at one point using a properties palette, rather than several dialogues. Expanded grips and improved associative views also ensure more intuitive work.
Automated operating processes thanks to Round-Trip Engineering
The new version also supports Nemetschek Round-Trip Engineering, which embodies a smooth interaction between CAD and CAE, eliminating the need for time-consuming and error-prone multiple entries. In the first stage of the process with one click the complete model is transferred from the CAD system Allplan into SCIA.ESA PT, the structural engineering software package produced by the Belgian subsidiary SCIA, while retaining its intelligence. The laborious and often inconvenient task of re-entering the geometry into the CAE software is now consigned to the past. The structural system is then automatically derived from the model of the load-bearing structure in the second stage. Structural engineers simply have to check whether the automatically generated proposal matches their expectations or whether further changes are needed.
The benefits of Round-Trip Engineering are most apparent when changes are made to a design. These need only be entered once in Allplan BIM 2008 Engineering and are then transferred to SCIA.ESA PT. The differences between the previous and current status are listed and displayed graphically in the CAE software. Each change can be checked individually in the dialogue. Depending on how they impact the load-bearing behaviour, the structural engineer decides whether the changes are to be accepted or ignored. The structural system is then automatically adapted and updated.
Pioneering formats support collaboration between offices
To speed up coordination between architects and engineers, Nemetschek’s new version has greatly simplified the process of exchanging data. Allplan BIM 2008 Engineering supports traditional formats for exchanging data alongside two formats destined to shape the future of the construction industry: PDF and IFC. With AdobePDF, not only can users import and export planning documents with layers, they can even exchange complete 3D models. Nemetschek has integrated the original Adobe libraries into the new version for this very purpose.
Engineers can now provide their planning partners, site managers and clients with a building model or a complex detail in an easy-to view form and coordinate work with them accordingly.
Allplan BIM 2008 Engineering also has the latest 2x3 IFC interface. Everyone involved in the design process can use the open IFC standard to exchange and share building data with all the members of a project team. This means that multiple entries and friction losses do not arise during coordination processes improving the quality of the data.
Allplan BIM 2008 Engineering will be released in October in German and English and is available from authorised dealers. The multilingual version of 16 languages will be released in January 2008.
