The sound of pneumatic drills rattles through Moscow’s building sites day and night. No other location in Europe is undergoing so much construction work as the Russian capital of over eleven million inhabitants. The different construction projects include both contemporary architecture and many imitations of historical
buildings. One example is the Hotel “Moscow” near the Kremlin – a unique project because of its location, size and architecture. The building was constructed in the 1930s by the architect A.V. Schusevs. A new building was planned because the old building had become dilapidated and behind the times technologically. The
sandstone façade of the old hotel will be restored in order to recreate the historical appearance of the old Hotel “Moscow”.
A multifunctional complex will also be created across an area of more than 190,000 m2, with a 5-star hotel, offices, a conference center, sales areas, apartments and an underground parking garage. The order for this huge project, to be completed in 2009, has been awarded to Strabag. As the general contractor, the international construction company is responsible for general planning and realization.
More than ten architects are currently working on the project this extremely ambitious. On the one hand, the historical value of the building is to be retained, while on the other hand, the luxury hotel is to be rebuilt with a modernized interior. The designers cannot dispense with efficient IT tools such as Allplan. From clear representation of old and new building work, to optimized cost planning and deadline monitoring, as well as facility management tasks, the software enables an efficient design process. It makes it easy to meet demanding requirements for layouts and presentations and it allows change requests from customers to
be integrated without problems.
