New Construction of Instructional and Health Center with attached Hot

Initiated by developer Rogner International Hotel Development GmbH, a project is being implemented
in Hüttenberg, Austria, that may be unique in the world. Elaborate planning for the “International Center of Higher Tibetan Studies” began in early 2006 - the first and only Tibetan educational center in the Western World. Designed as a cultural and tourist attraction, the building complex is slated for construction from
Spring of 2008 to 2009 in Hüttenberg. The center features classrooms, as well as a meditation hall.
In addition to serving as a research center, its purpose is instruction and further education in Tibetan
medicine and philosophy. A health center with an attached hotel is being built as well. In addition to
treatment and meditation rooms, the hotel also features a spacious wellness area. The corner stone
was placed under the auspices of the Dalai Lama in May 2006.

The design office’s most difficult task was to balance far Eastern architecture
with Austrian building styles without losing the Tibetan character. Project managers traveled to Tibet
for inspiration and to visualize its unusual building style in detail. With extensive research completed,
a detailed design was recreated in Allplan with a 3D building model. The 3D design significantly
facilitated the planning process and the reconstruction of slanted walls across five stories that is
typical of Tibetan architecture.
